Well, something in the latest Apple software update to version 10.4.7 seems to have broken the AFL Ladder Widget 1.4.2 and prior. The problem worked out to be how the Dashboard Javascript engine interpreted a non-breaking whitespace character when compared to a normal space character. Previously they matched, now they don’t, and this was causing problems with teams with spaces in their names (Sydney Swans, Brisbane Lions etc) not rendering correctly and causing the highlight function to stop working and the ladder to spill off the edge of the widget.

So to cut to the chase, there’s a new version of the ladder available here or from the AFL Ladder Widget page on this site.

Let me know if there are any problems with this new version.

I have had requests for additional information on the widget, like percentages. I have been working on an update to do this, the current widget already collects the percentages as it read all the rest of the table data, but I am not happy with how large the widget gets with percentages added in an extra column. So until I can come up with a better way of displaying and managing all the information, I’m going to leave it the way it is.

  1. Thanks very much for the AFL ladder – love it! One small problem I’ve noticed is that you can’t highlight your team if they happen to be St Kilda, Sydney, West Coast or Western Bulldogs…

Please fix it so I can instantly see how my beloved Swannies are doing…

    Cheers!
